This is a lot darker than most of my work. I was hoping that the background would be more solid, but it just sort of became fluid while I was working on it... I might rework it into a solid, but I thought it looked good this way so I went with it.

How it was made:
I rendered the faces in Poser 8 and I worked on the background in GIMP and Photoshop for a couple of days.
For the background, I ended up creating a fog effect which you can see in the forground still - especially along the edges and the lower left-hand corner. I then created a second layer of fog under that one and outlined individual pieces of it which began to look like water (completely accidentally, I was going for a steel-reflection sort of look as per what my friend had described). I liked the way the water looked, so I coloured it blue and painted some more water all over the background so it looked like water under a thin layer of fog.
Once I had the background the way I wanted I put the faces in as a new layer and they looked too clean and realistic with the background so obviously digital. I also didn't really like the colours, so I made it all black and white, messed with the contrast a bit (to make it look a little more dark and broody), and then outlined the faces with a dark line to fit with the background a bit better.
After that just a bit of touch up and it was done!
